Advising - MIT Concourse

Essentials

Advising

In addition to being paired with a Concourse first year advisor, students receive informal advising from upper-class students which continues throughout their four years.

Students are assigned to advising groups of 6-10 students with one faculty member and 1-3 student associate advisors. Advising groups meet occasionally over the semester for check-ins and fun outings.

Students will also have access to peers in their majors who share their interest in humanistic questions who can help them navigate the overwhelming options available at MIT with a view not only to their technical education, but also to their broader intellectual and character development.

Concourse was my first home at MIT, and it continued to be a wellspring of thoughtful conversation all through college.

Matisse Peppet, 2019

Concourse’s small classes and Fridays seminars cultivated strong communities that stayed with me through my four years at MIT and beyond. The academic environment helped me build strong habits of being active and engaged so that when I was in larger classes as a Sophomore and Junior, I was confident reaching out to professors to learn more and get involved in research opportunities.

Emma Bernstein, 2020

Joining Concourse was the best decision I could have made for my first year experience at MIT. The program promotes a vibrant sense of community that allowed me to explore and discover interests, both new and old, in an open and intellectually curious environment.

Leyatt Betre, 2016

Concourse has been fundamental in developing my understanding of the world and how I want to engage with it. I've enjoyed the deepness of thought this program nurtures, and being surrounded by friends throughout the journey.
