This subject introduces the core principles of chemistry. Throughout the semester, you will practice skills to examine the world from an atomic and molecular perspective.
WHO SHOULD TAKE CC.5111? CC.5111 provides an opportunity to rigorously explore the fundamental concepts of chemistry to establish or deepen your understanding of these chemical principles. Proficiency with general chemistry skills is essential for success in upper-level classes in Chemistry, Biology, Brain and Cognitive Science, EAPS, Chemical Engineering, BE, and other courses. Understanding chemical principles contributes to living an informed life in relation to health, environmental and energy issues, and science policy. In CC.5111, some of our students have minimal high school chemistry preparation and some have had multiple years of advanced chemistry. This course is designed for a range of chemistry backgrounds, and everyone leaves prepared to succeed in upper-level MIT classes.
